Preparing for Emergencies in the Church

Session 1

11:10am-12:10pm

Classroom: 109

This session will not focus on the great mission work already being accomplished by the United Methodist Church, specifically the Capital District, but rather focus on ways our mission work can possibly be enhanced, such as sharing mission opportunities with other churches and individuals who might have similar interests all the way to looking at investing more in more long-term relationships that don't create dependencies. In addition to the possible enhancements, discussion will also encompass the current long-term mission needs for those survivors of Hurricane Harvey.

Ben Patterson, a member of First United Methodist Church Austin, has over 20 years experience in emergency management and homeland security. Specifically, Mr. Patterson has spent his career working with citizens, local governments and state agencies to better prepare for response and recovery from catastrophic events.
