Liverpool Feds v Chorley

For the first match this season in the FA Women's National League Cup, Liverpool Feds host Chorley. Having lost out on progression in the second knock-out stage last season, the home team will be hoping for a further run in 26/27, particularly in this match against a team that is newly backed by Lioness Ella Toone and under new manager Brito. 

Liverpool Feds Starting 11: Mcaloon, Smith, Thompson, Prior, Walters, Duffy, Peaks, Andrews, Johnson, Loudon, Bouggess

Chorley Starting 11: Hunter, Hodson, Jones, Wong, Halliwell, Pattison, Melvin, Howth, Dooley, Durley, Pendlebury

A very early goal kicks off the game with Duffy scoring within the first minute for outside the penalty zone into the right bottom corner. 

Liverpool Feds 1 - 0 Chorley.

Chorley are quick to bring it back towards their goal, however Mcaloon stops any chances taken in the early minutes. However, a second goal is almost a reality for the home team as the ball is headed slightly wide at 14 minutes. Liverpool Feds have a good run of shots, all saved by Hunter, but the shots are impressive. But, fate changes at 30 minutes with a strong goal from Walters. Chorley are showing strong flow in play, and this was a lapse in defence.

Liverpool Feds 2 - 0 Chorley.

In the final minutes of the first half, in a fairly equal few minutes, Walters provides a brace from the center of the pitch which wasn't possible to stop for anyone.

Liverpool Feds 3 - 0 Chorley.

The second half starts with an attempt on goal, saved by Hunter. Liverpool Feds are dominating the start of the second half, while Chorley have had chances to move towards goal, the home team have been stronger and brought it back down. The Fed's defence has been particularly impressive so far. However, despite multiple attempts to increase the lead, Hunter is a star power in Chorley's defence and saves multiple attempts when the back line fail to do so. 

A fourth goal for Feds comes from Butcher as it rolls into the goal while the defence seem to loose track of the ball. A unfortunate one for Chorley as the defence has been holding strong this half.

Liverpool Feds 4 - 0 Chorley.

The game is called off early due to thunder and lightning protocols and ends at 4-0. 

Wythenshawe v Leeds United

The first time meeting for Wythenshawe v Leeds with this being Wythenshawe’s first season after promotion in Tier 4. The teams are close in the standings with Wythenshawe in 6th and Leeds in 8th. The awful weather will not stop these teams fighting today.

Wythenshawe starting 11: Cress, Boylan, Patient, Birch, Bradley, Hunt, Obida, O’Gara, Rowntree, Goodwin, Halligan

Leeds starting 11: Simpson, Millard, Legge, Bass, Greeve, Hughes, Smith, Dixon, Williams, Woodruff, White

Leeds start off panicky, whereas the debutants are looking more strategic at the beginning. With the home side trying for two early attempts, Leeds get their chance until Obida prevents the chance. Bass does well to keep Leeds in the game in these early minutes with her defence. Great defence also comes from Boylan to prevent attempts from Leeds. A goal looks like it is coming from Halligan and Birch until the play is called offside. Leeds need to be careful to stop giving the ball away to their opponents so easily in these early minutes. It isn’t long until the goal comes for Wythenshawe, despite strong defence up to this point- particularly from Greeve, the home side power through and Birch gets it in the back of the net with a great lead up from Obida and Bradley.

Wythenshawe 1 – 0 Leeds United.

Wythenshawe almost make it 2 as Simpson leaves the net and the ball just rolls towards goal, but it is slightly off target.  Leeds get their revenge, with a great equaliser from Dixon.

However, Leeds will not equalise quietly and get their second goal. A goal that reverts off Cress and hits the back of the net for Dixon!

At half time Wythenshawe 1 – 2 Leeds United.

Watson comes on at half-time for Leeds. Wythenshawe start with an early goal that ends up being disallowed due to being offside. Leeds, however, are determined for the 3rd with Obida working hard against great play from Williams. Cress is defending attempts from White and Williams well. Wythenshawe are once again called offside in an attempt to equalise. A change for Wythenshawe as Bradley comes off for Ritchie. And a third offside for Wythenshawe starts to leave this result in the balance for the home side. A yellow card goes to Birch for a foul on Hughes. Change for Leeds, Williams is off for Greene. A great attempt from Goodwin is saved by Simpson in the late minutes which was almost a reprieve for Wythenshawe. An unfortunate handball for Chambers gives away the ball to Leeds as both teams are fighting in these last minutes.

Wythenshawe say this game is not over, with less than 2 minutes to go, they get the equaliser and potentially secure the point. A great goal from Goodwin.

A fairly equal game in terms of play. Wythenshawe started as the stronger team, but Leeds capitalised on their lapses in play. A rough game on both sides, but no losses or wins as the points are divided.

Wythenshawe 2 – 2 Leeds United.

Stockport County v Doncaster Belles. 23.02.25

8th in the table Stockport face Doncaster Rovers Belles, who sit at 11th in danger of relegation at home this afternoon. Doncaster who lost their last game against Leeds 3-6 will be hoping to win back some points against the Hatters who also lost their last game against home town rivals Cheadle. Neither team have been in perfect form in their last five games, however the home team are looking in better form with one win, two draws and two losses over the Belles' two losses and three draws. This is a must win for Doncaster as Stockport have three games in hand over Doncaster, and the former WSL team are only one point from the bottom of the table and relegation to the Premier Division.

The Belles come to an early start with attempts from McWilliams and J. Tugby-Andrews, saved well by Heap. However, joy comes for the away side with a great goal from McWilliams.

Stockport County 0 - 1 Doncaster Rovers Belles.

The Hatters are not going down easy, however the Belles’ defence remains intact. County are lucky with attempts from McWilliams and Barnes being cleared by Heap and Davies. County are fighting back in this first half with further attempts by Watson and Newton that off-target and saved. Luck goes towards Doncaster twice with an missed handball and a foul awarded. County do well to prevent the second away goal from the free kick with a team effort in defence. County's free kick comes after an on pitch scuffle that provides a chance for County that they don't take. A foul on Barnes wins a second free kick for the visitors that Heaps saves. County are given further warnings by Barnes and Saxton with further attempts. Owen goes down, but it is the visitors who win the foul as Owen goes down committing the foul. It does not translate. Attempts by Brady, Lysons and Newton are close to equalising, but saved by Sharp. 

Half-time leaves the Belles leading. 

No changes at half time for either side. Medics are brought on early into the second half for Watson who receives a ball to the face. Play continues. Another missed handball, but this time for County. The first chance of the half for Donny is saved by Heaps, but most of the action is in the home box this half. On the rare occasion this half that the visitors get the ball to their side, Davies continues with her strong level of defence. A fantastic free kick from Owen almost equalises, but is saved by Sharp. A free kick for County after a foul on Csomor is defended well by Donny. Multiple attempts from County this half from Lysons that just fall short. 

Changes for both teams. Doncaster- Clark is off for Parnham. Stockport- Csomor off for Nsangou. 

Rathburn is fouled and wins a free kick just outside the box. Taken by Owens leading to a great chance for Stockport that is not taken advantage of. The game remains scrappy, and while Stockport are playing better, they cannot translate the chances to the scoreline. Another attempt, this time from Owens is saved. Stockport have a goal coming and everyone can feel it. Repeated corners for County give hope to the crowd, especially after some time wasting from the Belles defence with shoe lace tying. 

Change for County. Watson off for Tutton. Change for Doncaster. Goal scorer McWilliams off for Coley. 

It is clear that the Belles are fighting against their relegation in this match with the defence remaining strong, preventing strong shots from Brady. Multiple pauses in play for injury breaks for Doncaster. This seems to have impacted County's flow of play. Despite being the better team today, County continue to be unlucky on the scoreline having not been able to translate chances into strong attempts and goals. A late corner for County provides hope and it goes straight in from the corner. A well deserved goal for Rathburn!

Stockport County 1 - 1 Doncaster Rovers Belles.

Another change for County. Newton is replaced by Bancroft.

Today's match leaves County in 9th place dropping from 8th to next face Middlesbrough away. Doncaster remain in 10th and in danger of relegation , but now 1 points from the bottom to next face Cheadle Town. An exiciting draw for County and the Belles today.
