Manchester City v West Ham. 1st November 2025
By Hatty Ruddick
Chasing their first point of the season in the first game back from international break, West Ham come to the Joie Stadium. While injuries are still heavy for City, it brings the opportunity of a new captain in Casparij. City will be looking to continue their unbeaten streak ahead of the Manchester Derby in a fortnight.
Starting 11 for City: Yamashita, Rose, Shaw, Miedema, Ouahabi, Casparij, Blindkilde Brown, Fujino, Beney, Hasegawa, Prior
Starting 11 for West Ham: Szemik, Endo, Siren, Tysiak, Ueki, Zadorsky, Denton, Martinez, Asseyi, Gorry, Morgan
West Ham are working hard for a goal- particularly Martinez, however City's defence proves too strong in the early minutes. City are working hard in the attack too as Shaw heads the ball just above the post. A strong attempt comes from Ueki that Yamashita saves. While City look on points the stronger team, West Ham are proving they are not to be undermined today. As West Ham continue to keep City at bay Shaw goes down by the goal likely for the penalty that never comes. But City don't need to be worried as Fujino brings in the cross and potentially City's best goal this season.
Manchester City 1 - 0 West Ham United.
As West Ham try to get back in the game Asseyi looks in control, trying to win free kicks and telling the players what to do ahead of two consecutive corners for the home side. With an impressive run from Martinez, Asseyi goes for the equaliser that hits the top post. West Ham's defence against attempts from Shaw and Miedema is an incredible sight both with three players on them and Asseyi leading that charge. They stood no chance for a goal there.
While keeping to the clean sheet thus far, City are lucky in that. This has not been an overall strong performance for the home side and has been messy and disjointed. West Ham are unlucky in that they have not yet scored.
Changes for West Ham Siren off for Csiki, Martinez off for Wadndeler. Change for City, Beney off for Coombs. West Ham's Morgan is off for Hanshaw.
City keep their unbeaten streak and West Ham are denied their first points again. While City take the three points this is not their best performance and will take a lot to learn from today. Despite the points on the board, West Ham have a lot to be proud of today.
