Study with others. Come to a united view of what our churches need?
All of the dramatic periods of renewal/revival in the history of the church have been preceded by prayer. But that is equally true for the less dramatic, perhaps unknown times when God has brought renewal. Prayer is the key. Please do pray for renewal and growth.
We do have some people who have offered to pray regularly. We send out prayer suggestions monthly. If you are also willing to pray, please let us know.
Use your imagination
Are there several of you who could gather together for prayer?
Or, could meet on Zoom?
Could you set aside a particular time each day/week to pray for the churches in our region?
What about pray-walking your neighbourhood?
Would you like a list of the churches in the Presbytery or in your region?
Have you got a list of the key Presbytery/Synod personnel for whom you could pray regularly?
Visit the website for ideas of what, and who, to pray for.
Those were the words Mary spoke to the servants at the wedding in Cana (John 2:5). Trusting God and stepping out in obedience is a big part of renewal. It is often as we are obedient that God honours that and produces fruit from it.
Being obedient might mean doing things differently from what we have in the past. What is God calling us to leave behind and what is God calling us to do?
Doing church differently
There are examples, within the Presbytery, of doing church differently. We will include stories from them answering:
What is your philosophy of church? Why have you chosen a non-traditional approach?
How are you implementing that understanding? What does it actually look like?
What are you seeing God doing?
Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to you and trust Him to also enable you as you do step out in obedience. We can do nothing without Him. The Holy Spirit was clearly central to the ministry of Jesus and was the central character in the book of Acts.
What does the Holy Spirit want to do in you?
What does the Holy Spirit want to do through you?
Your stories and ideas will inspire others
What has worked? What hasn't worked?
What are you doing differently and why?
How do you believe God is leading you (your church) and how are you responding?
What have you seen God doing?
How can we grow in our faith? How can we help others trust Jesus more? How can we experience a more vital relationship with God?
Being a church is difficult. We live in a very secular context. There seems to be little interest in Jesus. What can we do? How can we be effective missionaries in our modern world?
Let's create a reservoir of ideas. Your idea might be just what another church is looking for.
