InDesign Newsletter

January 30, 2023

My first project due for my Multimedia Authoring course and my first project with InDesign.  I thought back into my interest in marine biology and decided to create an informational newsletter on Florida's Mangroves.  I was largely inspired from volunteering at the Florida Aquarium in the past and my love of nature.

For the header and sub headers I chose something bold to get the reader's attention.  For the title header I chose a yellow Arial Bold font to stand-out from the header image.  The sub-headers were the same, but green color instead as I liked the yellow/green to complement the subject matter.  The body text is called "Minion Pro" and looks similar to Arial, but somewhat softer and not quite as bold.  I experimented a bit with speech bubbles and tried utilizing yellow speech bubbles to go with some of the images. I was a bit limited on images as I wanted to see if I could use open source/public domain images and so I structured my text boxes around what I could find.  Was contemplating choosing something other than white for the background, but stuck with it just to be safe.

It was a very different and overwhelming experience at the moment.  I was a little hesitant to even just play around with it to get a feeling for it.  Eventually I got a hand of sizing text boxes using the diagram lines to measure and proportion the text boxes with the images.  I definitely feel I would of chose something different for the body text as it does look a bit too similar to the header text, but I did want some consistency as well.  I didn't look into how to make the background an image rather than white for the last page, so I just settled for one image and on text box.
