The concept for the logo design was tied to the fact that the logo is for a fictional fishing charting company.
I was inspired by looking at many fishing related logos, but noticed that many of them use the same iconic species "Tuna, Wahoo, Marlin". I wanted the logo to be unique from the competition while still embodying the theme of the company. This is where the idea of using an anglerfish came to frutition.
These are some rough sketches I did to brainstorm logo ideas and concepts. The original anglerfish logo employed many details in the design such as fishing rod and a hook that made-up the lower jaw. I showcased the design concept to my family and a major criticism they had was they were initially confused by the logo as it employed too much detail. While converting the sketch into a vector image, I toned down the details and made the logo primarily black with yellow highlights. The yellow highlights symbolizing the bioluminescent lure on the anglerfish.
I'm mostly satisfied how the logo came-out, but there was one detail that my instructor didn't really see well was the anglerfish posed to resemble the letter "D" for Deep Fishing Charters. I really should have experimented with the finalized design a bit more so I could polish the logo to read the effect more that I was trying to present. I also noticed a bit late that some of the lines are not perfectly smoothed out and could use some refinement.
