A Professional Learning Network, also known as a PLN, is a group of resources, such as people or tools, that can help you expand your knowledge. Examples might be face-to-face, online forms, educational blogs, online courses, or workshops.
There are great benefits to having a PLN, such as having access to other perspectives as well as different ideas that you might have not thought of before. There are opportunities to figure out what isn't working and share ideas on how to fix other's problems. A PLN can boost your career and build your reputation within your professional circle.
Keep an open mind
A Professional Learning Network is based on an open mindset, you must be able to have an open mind with incoming questions and ideas from others and be able to share your insights. Also having a growth mindset is important, always learning and growing in your professional development. While you're getting an intake of new ideas, make sure you are sharing your own!
If you are using a PLN in a classroom setting, students will benefit from the strategies, ideas, and new activities you have gathered from your growing PLN. Your students will flourish and thrive in their learning environment when you construct and adapt your PLN to suit their needs
As I study to become a teacher, I can see how having a PLN is vital to a successful career in education. I am learning that it's important to build your PLN within your own school as well as building along with others in neighboring schools, and not just face-to-face, but in the digital world. Having a PNL online can advance your resources and also help others in growing theirs. Here is a link I am sharing where you can start your own PLN online!
In order to build a successful PLN, you must be engaging when posting on your online platforms. Your online platform will be engaging if you include pictures, videos, and articles inviting to your audience. Being present, commenting, and replying to others will grow your followers. Try other platforms and explore new networks to boost your PLN.
When I become an educator, I will know the importance of connection to gain knowledge and gather information, as well as sharing my knowledge with others. I will connect with the resource people in my building, meet with peers, join in on meetings, and attend professional development that will enhance my learning.
I will share what I know with others so they can also benefit from teachings and strategies, whether it's online or simply lending a good book. I would like to go to as many PDs as I can because I know they are important.
https://www.bsky.app and CK12 https://www.ck12.org are platforms where educators can gather and also share online. I have experienced both and confirm they are excellent sites.
