Sidney Maiden: Trouble an' Blues Analogue Productions, APR3011. Not as good as Charles Mingus (singing and recording quality both inferior.) I wish I wrote down which Charles Mingus recording was that....
CMP Records, 6055. Jeremy Steig and Eddie Gomez. music for flute and double bass. Absolutely superb double bass sound. Weird processing, has lots of effects that sometimes make you question your sanity. First track - did not seem the right pitch, and the every track has its own processing curios. Sometimes the playing is a musical jerk-off. Well, if you like the sound of double bass, and you are not selective of the music material, then this is a superb disc!!! It has good musical moments as well. But low points as well…
Telefunken, Ludwig Streicher Bottesini. Piano and bass. Superb recording, absolute double bass demo. Superb bassist! Very good piano accompaniment. Demo record. 6.42230AS. Very good imaging, esp of the bass. Zupa!!
2019 Spring-Summer
OJC Prestige LP7023: JJ Johnson and Kai Winding + Benny Green: Thrombone by Three. Good record, good music, good sound but nothing special. Sounds a little dry. Too much high frequencies - trombone and top hats about 80% of the time. Will put a good dent in your ear canal!
Blue Note Reissue: Horace Silver - The Trio Sides. 1952-68. Much better than OJC LP7023. Very good imaging in mono. Great layering of instruments.
Blue Note Reissue: Fats Navarro - Prime source. Good music. Good sound, similar to Horace's!
