Vacation/makeup work policies

Vacation Makeup-work Policy

The Ahern student handbook policy states that students should enjoy their time away and make up work upon returning. "Teachers cannot be expected to arrange for homework in anticipation of absence. In particular, children who are taken out of school for vacation should not expect teachers to prepare materials before their trip."

BOTTOM LINE: Enjoy your trip! Make up work AFTER you return.

  • If you want to stay caught up, use this website for daily class review and access to posted handouts. I do NOT provide handouts or study guides before you leave. I change handouts as lessons progress to address student needs, so they are not ready and printed ahead of time.
  • Stay after on my regular after school help day (usually Tuesdays) once you return rested and refreshed.

Make up ALL missing work, tests, quizzes etc. within 2 weeks of an absence--the sooner the better so the class does not get too far ahead of you. I do not remind students to make up work--in grade 7 it is the STUDENT'S responsibility to arrange to make up work in the allotted time.

It is never possible to fully recapture many days worth of interactive instruction, but I recognize that family time and shared experiences are well worth some extra work upon returning. Enjoy your vacation!
