Logos Ethos Pathos

OBJECTIVE: APPLY the Logos, Ethos, and Pathos definitions to practice evaluating arguments from everyday life.

1. Circulate to different tables. At each table there are "Logos, Ethos, Pathos Ad Analysis" sheets. Each table has handouts for a DIFFERENT ad (A through D). Be sure to watch and fill in the correct sheet!

2. Click on LINK not picture and expand to Full screen. Activate Closed Captioning. View the ad with your group once.

3. Discuss the main CLAIM (argument) each ad makes and how WELL you think the ad works to convince you to buy. Discuss how the ad uses Logos, Pathos, and Ethos to "sell" you. Watch AGAIN and finish discussion.

4. Write all group member names on the worksheet and then fill in ONE copy for your group. Take the filled in work sheet with you as you proceed to the next table.

5. When done at ALL tables, fill in the AD AWARDS sheet independently. Staple the group analysis sheets together. Keep the AD AWARDS sheet separate. Turn in ALL work to the CLASSWORK basket.

6. Pick up the FRIENDSHIP argument essay and follow the directions. The Friendship reading, highlighting and questions are to be done INDEPENDENTLY.
