This paper takes the discussion further after circa 750 AD. Here the focus is on the changes that took place in the wake of the growth of Samanta System, an Indian variant of Feudal Mode of Production and Landlordism at various regions in India. With Feudalism there were certain changes that were noticed in the social formation of society, namely the proliferation of Jati system, that we study here the growth of one such class i.e. Rajputs and the process through which they found their way in the Varna System. The other significant social change is seen at the religious level where various cults takes shape in the wake of Bhakti movement, and certain regional counter-movement of Puranic traditions like the Tantricism, Shakti cult et al. The second section of the long periodic segment deals with the advent of Turks in India and the establishment and consolidation of first Muslim rule in the Indian sub-continent. How various scholars have seen the coming of the Muslims in India, their interaction with the Hindu communities, effects on the linguistic culture in India form important part of the paper. Issues like Iconoclasm, Hindu-Muslim interaction, Sufi-Bhakti interaction, interaction among the Muslim Sultan and Hindu subjects, and a centralised Muslim state with regional Hindu kingdoms like Vijayanagar, Rajputs, Gujarat, Bengal, Odisha are also part of the paper. An attempt is made here that the students shall get most of the readings at one place. However, it is important to highlight here that even though an attempt has been made to provide topic specific articles but there are articles that are relevant for more than one topic. It is advisable therefore to go through as many readings as possible; rest is reader’s discretion.
