PLAU AM SEE, GERMANY
Daschenkrot was founded in 1936 by four men in Bonn, Germany. All four men shared a love of mechanical engineering and a desire to create the bes cranes in the world. To tackle a well-developed market, the gentlemen needed a competitive advantage. T
Herbert Van Skoolen was a Dutch immigrant. Herbert moved to a small town in north-eastern Germany and assembled steel pipes and cables to make his first crane, the Y134, which was mounted on a small truck and built in 1933. The crane broke after lifting a car tire, but it inspired Herbert to start a crane company. The broken Y134 was sold to a Danish and is currently sitting abandoned in a field in southern Denmark. Van Skoolen's second model was the F6000 in 1934. 4 of these were sold to the Danish Navy, but all 4 were lost one year later after communication errors. These 4 cranes were found in thick mud beneath a city street in Copenhagen, and they have not moved since 1935.
Grigorij van Pline was a Dutch-Russian immigrant living in Lübeck, Germany. Grigorij studied mechanics in Lithuania and was eager to start his new life as a mechanical engineer. Grigorij created his first prototype, model G60, in 1930. Van Pline founded Kaigas crane company in Vilnus, Lithuania in 1931. Kaigas went out of business in 1933 when the factory literally slid into the River Neris during a landslide. The model G60 was pulled from the river, rather ironically, by one of Sergej Białoruś' K950 cranes. The G60 was repaired and sold to a small construction company, which accidentally dropped the crane in the River Neris again. Yet another K950 pulled the G60 from the river, the G60 was repaired and sits abandoned in a field in Lithuania now.
Sergej Białoruś emigrated to Germany from Belarus in 1928. Sergej had previously built farm machines out of scrap metal and wanted to produce inexpensive cranes that could be sold to less-developed countries such as Belarus and Ukraine. Sergej created his first model, the K920, in 1930. In 1931, Sergej created an improved version of the K920, called the K950. The K950 sold well in Lithuania and Poland, but was too expensive for the Belarussian and Ukrainian markets. Many K950s were bought secondhand by farmers in the 1950s, and so approximately 29 out of the 76 K950s are currently sitting abandoned in fields. Sergej created the K956 and K990 in 1932 and 1933 respectively.
The company now employs over 2,600 employees and has three facilities, all three in Germany. The original headquarters also serves as the main production facility.
