use a texture with an Alpha channel, with a gradual gradient from transparent to opaque.
set to alpha mask
scale a duplicate outwards & increase the Alpha Mask Cutoff.
repeat .
set either the texture Scale H OR V to something absurdly high.
from my own testing, simple gradient textures 32x and below are ideal, otherwise a Moiré effect is likely to occur.
Anisotropic Filtering will weaken this effect.for spheres;
hollow : 95other prim shapes involve a few extra steps, but i believe in u to figure them out .
use gradient textures to give colors an extra pop without disrupting the beautiful natural prim form
they can also be used to disguise seams if properly mapped !i recommend using the ‘Digital Legacy’ windlights if attempting to create a smooth multi-prim gradient.
