Dr. Rahat Jahangir Rony

I have completed my Ph.D. in Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University. My supervisors are Dr. Katarzyna Stawarz, Dr. Nervo Verdezoto Dias, and Prof. Valerie Sparkes. 

I am also an affiliated researcher (external) in Design Inclusion and Access Lab (DIAL) at North South University. I worked as a Research Assistant of Dr Nova Ahmed, Professor, ECE Dept., NSU, Bangladesh, and am still working with her. Previously, I was a Research Assistant at BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, from January to June 2020. I have nearly five years of research experience in HCI, ICTD, Systems & Sensors. I worked as a researcher on funded projects from the Gates Foundation, Google, UKRI, and GCRF.

I completed my BSc in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, with a major in Power System Engineering and a minor in Solid State Engineering. My Undergraduate Research Thesis was on Organic Photovoltaics and Solar Energy Research with Dr. Mahdy Rahman Chowdhury, Assistant Professor, ECE Dept, North South University, and Dr. Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Chair (EEE Dept.), United International University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. 

I worked mainly on HCI, ICTD, Systems & Sensors throughout my parallel multidisciplinary research period. My Key Research topics are:

• Development of the Wearable Security for Women Against Sexual Harassment (2016-2018)

• Cyber Security, Privacy Concerns and Data Breach (2018-2019)

I have International Publications as First-author and Co-author based on my research. I am also working as the organizer of ACM events.

My 9 years of research experience in the HCI field has enriched my knowledge, level of thinking, and understanding. My vision is to continue my Research Work in the HCI field to create something interactive, to find out technology interventions at a reasonable level for a common problem, and to design something for development (HCI4D) that would help all the people of the world specifically the people of developing countries.  In the future, I want to look at myself as a successful researcher and will continue to do research for Bangladesh. On the other hand, I want to represent Bangladesh on the global platform to make research collaboration with developed nations with the upcoming young Bangladeshi Researchers.
