ACM SIGCHI Winter School

ACM SIGCHI is increasing its engagement with practitioners and researchers from Asian developing countries. Based on this motivation, it set up an Asian Development Committee in 2016, and has already organized a significant number of conferences in Asia, and also in Asian developing countries. The CHI 2015 was successfully held in Seoul, South Korea, and it has already announced that CHI 2021 is being planned for Japan.

In the anticipation of CHI 2021 in Japan, we plan to organize the Winter School and follow-up activities in the month of November 2019 in Bangladesh. This Winter School will be a continuation of June-July Summer Schools of How to Write a Paper for CHI 2021 that held in India and China as well. The objective of this winter school is to support SIGCHI's goal by encouraging researchers, practitioners and research students from Asia (more focus to global south) to submit a larger number of quality paper submissions to the CHI 2021 conference in particular, and HCI conferences in general. We hope to achieve this by facilitating the following activities:

• Follow-up virtual bi-monthly group discussion to peer review the ongoing research work
• Mentoring sessions by widely-established researchers
• In-depth communication on CHI paper writing among local researchers

The participants will get an opportunity to work actually on research findings based on their research projects through the rest of the period and finally can prepare a research paper. Participants can have several opportunities to get feedback from peers and mentors, and have their paper ready by the CHI deadline in September 2020.

We aim to attract participants all around the globe. Through the SIGCHI development fund, we aim to support students and educators, practitioners interested in HCI. The selection process for allocating the student scholarships will be juried and based on the student’s CV and letter of motivation. We try to reach out to the participants who conduct research in this space but who do not traditionally participate in summer/winter schools, with a particular emphasis on practitioners and researchers.

This Winter School is organized by Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter and NSUHCI in Bangladesh.

North South University Human Computer Interaction Research Group is a gathering of marvelous HCI academic researchers, interactive students and HCI experts from numerous industries in Bangladesh. The first initiatives have been taken by them to make Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter through HCI academic and industry researchers in Bangladesh.

• HCI experts of Bangladesh have joined here to enrich the community of Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter. This community has successfully supported by the academic and industry researchers through foreign collaborations based on HCI.
