During my second-year placement, I got the opportunity to observe and take part in the teaching of PE. However, the Year 5 class I was based in spent the majority of their remaining PE sessions attending swimming lessons. I’m glad for the experience of going swimming with the class as I got to see the process of them lining up, getting on the coach, getting changed and then the actual structure and content of the lesson. Parts of the session were taught by the PE specialist and others were led by the swimming instructors, which was dependent on the ability group. On my consolidation placement, I taught PE using a scheme of work provided by the Lancashire Planning where I taught the children various types of rolls such as the egg roll, pencil roll and rock on back roll.
