Since the reformation of the National Curriculum in 2014, the subject of IT has been integrated into the subject of Computing. Having left primary school in 2012, a lot of the content within Computing was new territory to me and I felt apprehensive about teaching it. To tackle this, the Faculty of Education at Edge Hill has placed a higher emphasis on the subject, meaning it receives the same amount of teaching time as the core subjects of English, Maths and Science. This is because they want to equip the new generation of teachers with an adequate understanding of concepts within the subject due to its complicated nature. The Computing programme of study combines the key aspects of information technology, digital literacy and computer science to support children growing up in an increasingly digital world. By studying these aspects in detail, I feel as though my understanding of children's learning within the subject has grown significantly due to my own experience of learning these concepts, as well as how to teach them. On my consolidation placement, I planned and taught a series of Computing lessons and found this to be one of my favourite subjects as a result of the children's response to the learning. Due to COVID-19, this was their first experience of Computing education and they thoroughly enjoyed using the computers and iPads to explore digital concepts such as clicking, dragging and drawing.
