Geography was never a subject I particularly enjoyed at primary or secondary school, however I feel as though my lack of interest in the discipline has contributed to me wanting to teach the subject better. I want children to feel excited about the world they live in and Geography is the perfect subject to encourage this passion! The seminars I've attended at university have developed my understanding of the dimensions of subject content and how these are explored within a primary context. We have also explored some of the issues faced by schools when teaching Geography as well as ways to overcome these. On my consolidation placement, I taught Geography as part of 'Topic' and this involved looking at the United Kingdom, specifically focusing on London to make comparisons with Ormskirk.
