Travel & Accommodation

Delegates should arrange their own travel and accommodation for the conference.

Getting to Manchester

Delegates are requested to consider the impact of their travel on the environment. Manchester is well served by train services across the country, with two principal stations: Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria.

Where air travel cannot be avoided, Manchester International Airport (MAN) has excellent train and tram links to the city centre.

If driving to Manchester, note parking can be expensive as part of deliberate council policy to encourage public transport use. The University of Manchester's Car Parks B and D are available to the public. If you hold a Blue Badge, please get in touch with the organising committee as they can request Manchester Metropolitan University reserve a parking space close to the conference venue.

Getting around Manchester

Manchester Metropolitan University and The University of Manchester campuses are connected by Oxford Road, which runs south from St Peter's Square in the city centre.

It takes approximately 10 minutes to walk between the campuses; 15 minutes to walk from MMU to St Peter's Square and 20–25 minutes to walk from UoM to St Peter's Square.

Manchester is served by an excellent local transport network, including trams, buses and Bee Bikes, operated through Transport for Greater Manchester that makes it easy to travel around the city region sustainably.

Numerous buses operate along Oxford Road (contactless payments available), as well as Bee Bike rentals (Beryl app required) and private taxis are also available. Private cars are not permitted on parts of Oxford Road.

The local tram network is extensive and runs regularly, including to the main train stations and airport (contacless payments possible; do not forget to 'tap-out'!) The closest tram stop to the university campuses is St Peter's Square.

Citymapper operates in Manchester, alongside other travel apps, making it easy to plan transit across the city.

Accommodation in Manchester

There are lots of accommodation options in Greater Manchester for a range of budgets, including abundant hotels and hostels. Transport links into and out of the city centre are also excellent. Delegates should arrange their own accommodation for the duration of the conference.
