This week my students learned about documentary photographer Dorthea Lange (1895-1965). Lange is best know for her work during the 1930s as she captured images of the great depression and the impact it had on family life. Her most famous image is the iconic "Migrant Mother". This is a photo of a mother looking for work taken outside of Watsonville California in 1936. Our project was to follow in her footsteps and document "The New Normal" that we are living in everyday.
My goal for the new normal photo is to show that for the class of 2020 seniors haven't been having the same experiences and emotions that past classes have had.
I decided to put on a mask with a cap and gown to represent what its like for graduates trying to still be safe through out this hard time.
I know that we are planning on having a graduation ceremony in August, but I wanted the photo to represent what seniors this year have gone through during this pandemic.
By having social distancing to prevent the spread of the illness we had to sacrifice certain memorable moments in our school year to keep everyone safe.

(above) My goal for this photo was to show the new normal. Instead of going outside with friends we are stuck at our houses. It also shows that we have to wear a mask when we go outside.

(above) My goal for this project was to capture the new normal in one picture. This photo demonstrates the new normal because we are social distancing. This shows that we must try to stay six feet apart from others outside.

This is my new normal because I will use these if I go outside. My goal is protecting my family from the coronavirus. I wonder if when we return to school that everyone will need to wear a mask.

My goal was to project how sad my mom was since she can't really go outside. She really loves nature and is really outdoors person. She is really bored in the house. She doesn't even like going out now because of this virus.

This is our “New Normal”. These are the items my mom uses when she leaves the house. My mom is usually the only one that leaves the house. She is the one that goes to the store, gets takeout food and gets gas in our truck. My family will go out for a walk or ride bikes, but we all wear masks. This way we are all safe. It feels weird when we leave the house and we must wear a mask.
I wonder when the new school year starts in August will we still have to Distance Learn at our house, or will we get to go back to High School. I wonder if we do get to go back to High School, will we have to wear a mask around campus.

My new normal is playing in my backyard with my brother and wearing a mask every time i go outside. My goal was to show what i do to enjoy the outside. I use the trampoline to practice doing front flips and i play catch with my brother in my backyard.

This is a picture of my sister and mom. My sister really looks like she mad but she isn't you guys. The only place where we stay hanging out through is the back yard so i took a picture of them in the backyard.

(above) The three people I used for my project is myself, my sister Kathy, and my mother Dina. The goal for my project is to show how we love those good times when were breathing fresh air from outside with our nose and mouth's, but now we are all covered in mask and we will only get a visual look of outside from our windows now, and to show that we all have tried to reach outside of our homes.

My goal with this was to capture how empty and closed up things are due to the current global health crisis. Seeing a mall, which is a usual social gathering place, this empty is now normal, because of the now common social distancing standard that is being set in attempt to lessen the severity of the health crisis.
I didn't really struggle with taking the picture, but the most challenging part was breaking and entering the closed mall's food court. Jk, it was surprisingly open so I thought might as well.

For me the new normal is wearing a mask all the time, cleaning 24/7 and not really being allowed out unless im with one of my parents. The new normal now is doing online school and online meetings. i used my cousin who has been staying with us for the photos.

(left) The new normal for me is finding a way to make time pass. The way I enjoy doing that is playing video games. My goal with this assignment was finding something I didn't do often before not being able to go outside. For me, this was gaming because before the Covid-19 pandemic I would be playing basketball and hanging outside. Since I can't go outside anymore I have been passing time by playing games.

The “New normal". For his assignment I thought I would just take pictures of the world and how empty it is outside right now. But in stores there are more people.

My goal for this assignment was to get a photo that is a perfect representation of this whole social distancing situation. Luckily I have been out throughout this week for some errands. Stay safe and don't touch your face.

This is my new normal. Like everyone else, I want to go out and enjoy life. Sadly that's not an option right now. Looking out the window is all I do now. Watching the cars go by and head straight home. My goal for this photo was to represent the longing of going out, just sitting by a window and waiting.
Jacqueline Ramirez
My goal for this picture was to capture what school is like now. The new normal now is doing all my work on my computer and having online classes and calls.

For my "New Normal" assignment, I asked my brother to pose for all of my pictures, one shows him playing video games because that's one of the few ways to stay entertained in quarantine, one picture of him looking outside because we miss going outside, and a picture of him wearing a mask like we all have to in order to be safe from the virus.

With this photo I wanted to show how the stores are like during the pandemic. Some people are panicking and over buying because of the pandemic but also things made in China are not getting shipped so supplies of those items are low. This will mean that the prices of items will go up and some items we used daily might not be available to us anymore.
Samantha Smith
What I did for this picture is I went to one of the parks that was closed and took a picture. This is the new normal because we are social distancing and nothing is opened anymore.
