Surrealism is a movement in visual art and literature that flourished in Europe between World Wars I and II. Surrealism grew principally out of the earlier Dada movement, but had an emphasis reuniting conscious and unconscious realms of experience. In this project our goal was to use our own photos to create a picture that captured a dreamlike, or sometimes nightmarish effect.

I did something pretty simple. I incorporated three images: me looking at the camera, me with fake blood, and a picture of a cracked phone screen protector.
I used the screen protector to create an effect and make the mirror look broken.
I struggled on making the set-up and avoiding my camera from moving so the edit can come out clean. Then, I played around with some accessories and the filter to add some gloomy vibes.

I didn’t really a idea for this project till i saw one of my class mates post thanks for the idea 😆 .
The filter made it look even better because one side is darker for the different emotion. I struggled with lining it up but did it as best as I could .

I decided to use myself for this project. What worked was how everything came together. I didn't expect it to be a good idea until I put it into Photoshop and actually started editing it.
My difficulties were making the heads look like it was on one body. it was mainly trial and error but in the end it worked in my eyes.

For this project, I was heavily inspired by Junji Ito. He is a manga artist whose work is both equally surreal and horrific.
That being said, I decided to give myself another head-- growing out of my own head !! (head-ception?) because honestly, who doesn't want two heads?
Anyways, I had the most trouble with taking the photos to edit. By the time I took the perfect ones, my camera roll was filled with around 80 failed attempts. :-(

This is a collage of pictures i took to make this really creepy photo. I tried to make it seem like the ghost was coming out the water as my sister was reaching over to grab her stuffed animal.
It was really hard to make the ghost look like it was in the water because I had to make my sister stand in our pool while I took it and then I had to flip the image cause it was the wrong way. I also had a hard time getting my sister that close to the water cause she was scared about falling in the water. I think it turned out really good.

I picked my hand, eye, and another persons teeth because in my mind I knew I could create something with those, and also i have all the things I need for the photo.
What worked well was the black and white and the eye. I struggled on getting the right size hand and getting the background.

I just looked around my room and saw a combination of these pictures.
I was thinking of doing something weird and this is what I thought of.

For this project, my picture is my little sister have branches come out her mouth.
I didn't think it would be good because I had many ideas which I'm still currently trying out.
The struggles I had was trying to blend in all the objects together. It took at least 4 tries to get it to look how I wanted it to.

For this project I just used three photos I took of my cousin. The concept of surrealism is very dreamlike so that's what I tired to represent with this collage. I changed the color of the sky to purple.
I found that the most difficult part because other objects in the photo would also change in color so i tried my best with that. I used a picture where she was jumping and then duplicated that same photo and added them into the background to seem like she was flying, almost watching herself fly.
I was inspired by one of Natalia Seth's photo where she has this full moon behind her and wanted to add something along the lines of that but then I remembered I had to use just my photos. I thought this project was pretty fun to do!

For some reason I always like the more spooky and dark type of edits.
So that's why I chose to keep a more nature scene. I wish you could tell more but there's fingers coming out of my eye. I put a photo of the sunset and trees I took over my face and then the background is me surrounded by leaves and that photo is just of a tree I took in the backyard.
I struggled with actually bringing the idea I had in my head and actually ended up doing something pretty different but I still like how it turned out. Oh and of course I made it b&w hehe.

I chose to do a photo like this because I didn’t have a lot of choices but this seem to be a good one.
What worked was capturing two different settings with my moms help.
I struggled with lining up the pictures to match as close as possible.

This is my surrealism piece and it is of an eye in a telescope and people pointing fingers at it.
There wasn't really any struggles except for the eye pic because it would not focus.

My surrealism project portrays my little brother using a spoon to row a boat, which is a banana.
I also edited it to seem like the setting was at night by downloading brushes to make the mist and the moon's reflection, and I changed the coloring to be more bluish.
While capturing the background, I struggled a little with positioning the bubbles, but I ended up taking two photos and using the lasso tool to move some bubbles.

If people say I'm annoying already..... I wonder how they'd react to my cloning invention......
There's not much to this one, but I still like it 😁

I just stuck whatever together to be honest.
I like eye's, tree, and skulls so I decided to mix it together in whatever surrealistic way I could come up with.
I didn't really struggle much with anything, but I suppose what I most struggled with was with the actual combining of the photos, but I figured it out. So, yeah.
