I am happy to support students by writing letters of recommendation for scholarships, transfer applications, college programs, internships, jobs, or other academic opportunities. A strong letter takes time to write, so please contact me as early as possible.
Please try to give me at least two weeks notice before the letter is due. When you make your request, please include the following:
The name of the scholarship, college, program, or opportunity you are applying for
The deadline and instructions for submitting the letter
A copy of your personal statement, resume, or list of accomplishments
A copy of your unofficial transcript
Any details you would like me to highlight, such as your academic strengths, growth, leadership, challenges you have overcome, career goals, or contributions to the class
The more information you provide, the stronger and more personalized your letter will be.
I especially appreciate when students tell me what they hope the letter will emphasize. For example, you might want me to highlight your participation in class, writing skills, improvement over the semester, leadership, commitment to your community, academic goals, or personal qualities that make you a strong candidate.
When possible, I will let you see a draft of the letter so we can discuss any changes, corrections, or additions. This helps make sure the letter represents you accurately and supports your application in the strongest way possible.
Because deadlines can be easy to miss, I may ask you to send me a reminder before the letter is due. Please do not feel uncomfortable doing this. A reminder helps make sure your letter is submitted on time.
Please email me (jounjian@contracosta.edu) with the subject line: Letter of Recommendation Request
In your message, include the deadline, submission instructions, and the materials listed above. I will let you know whether I am able to write the letter and whether I need any additional information from you.
