University of Bristol

The University of Bristol is one of the most prestigious universities in the UK. It is a thriving international community combining excellence in research with a vibrant entrepreneurial culture. Research is at the heart of the University's mission and accounts for its international reputation. The University organizes its academic affairs in 25 Schools and 15 research centres arranged in six faculties: Engineering, Science, Biomedical Sciences, Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Law, and Arts.

In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), over 98% of research at the University was deemed to be of an international standard. Over 83% of the research assessed was awarded either the top 4* rating, defined as 'world leading', or the 3* rating, 'internationally excellent'. As a result, in 2015-16 the University was allocated the 8th highest share of government research funding in England. The University participates in hundreds of international collaborations both within and outside of Europe and attracts research funding from organisations around the world.

A key element of UoB’s vision is delivering research and education that is economically and socially relevant and building effective links with the community and industry through high-quality research collaboration and productive knowledge exchange, the creation and support of new enterprises, and the licensing of intellectual property. Public engagement is viewed as part of the University’s core business and as integral to research and teaching which is grounded in societal need and that promotes lifelong learning, widening participation and fair access.

Role in project

The University of Bristol (UoB), with vast experience in managing EU grants, will provide some PM support to SU. This will have the added advantage of also building stronger EU grants management capacity within SU for future projects. In particular UoB will oversee the monitoring and evaluation workpackage and appointment of the Project Advisory Board comprising non-members of the consortium.
