PROFILE (long version)

Professor Betty McDonald is a highly acclaimed researcher with over 50 years academic experience. Indefatigable, innovative, entrepreneurial and a visionary leader, she has a documented track record for creating a future that was not going to happen. She has a passion for integrating curriculum change to match the demands of new and emerging technologies.

She has served as Visiting Professor to universities across five continents. A Fulbright, HI and Commonwealth Fellow, UNESCO, ACU, APA, Canadian Leadership and Endeavour Awardee. She is currently the Head of the Professional Development Unit at The Teaching, Learning and Instructional Support (TLIS) Centre, responsible for training instructors (Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Senior Instructors, Instructors II, I, etc.) in pedagogy at The University of Trinidad and Tobago.

During her over 16 year tenure at UTT she has supervised several postgraduate students (doctoral, masters). She has authored UTT’s Teaching and Learning Policy, Postgraduate Certificate in Tertiary Education (PGCTE); sections of UTT’s Reaccreditation Self-Study, among other important institutional documents. Extremely experienced in qualitative and quantitative research, instrument development, measurement and evaluation, etc. She is the author of over 224 publications, including over 45 academic books and technical reports. Professor McDonald’s interests include assessment, teaching, learning, problem-based learning (PBL), service learning (SL), professional development, applied statistics, project management, mathematics and technical and vocational education. She has been very successful in securing funding for several teaching and learning projects.
