Hello! Welcome to my page. My name is Priscilla Newsom, and I live in Bentonville, Arkansas. I am a graduate student in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). My focus of study is psychiatric mental health, and I will graduate in May 2025.
My nursing career began in 2004 when I graduated with my associate's degree in nursing from North Arkansas College. In 2007, I married my husband, who had just begun a career in the Marine Corps. This led to six domestic moves and one international move for our small family. Although these frequent moves presented us with many challenges, they allowed me to work in multiple states, within different departments, and among incredible nurses across the country.
Along the way, I completed a Bachelor of Nursing Science bridge program at the University of West Florida. I have experience in cardiac telemetry, postpartum care, and psychiatric nursing. Although I have enjoyed aspects of each field I have worked in, I feel most passionate about behavioral health.
Completing the DNP program will allow me to work as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP). I hope to enrich the lives of people in underserved and rural areas by providing them access to care.
My interests include spending time with family and friends, traveling, hiking, and reading. I am so excited to begin the next chapter of my life as a PMHNP!
