I was able to achieve Outcome 9 through the completion of assignments in the course NURS 7116: Roles and Professional Practice for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. These assignments provided my first opportunity to familiarize myself with the laws and regulations governing advanced nursing practice. The first assignment required me to use the Arkansas State Board of Nursing’s Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Decision Making Model to determine if prescribing stimulants fell within the scope of practice for a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. The second assignment involved creating an infographic that displayed key laws and regulations governing APRNs. Since I will begin my practice in the state of Washington, my professors allowed me to focus specifically on the laws and regulations in that state. These activities have increased my knowledge of my scope of practice, enabling me to adhere to laws and regulations as I begin my professional practice.
