A form-completion task asks you to record practical details: a customer’s name, an address, an appointment, a price or a preference. Read each field before listening so you know what information is missing. The surrounding words matter as much as the blank itself: a printed pound sign asks for an amount, while a printed street name may leave only the building number missing.
This guide includes an original written rehearsal with ten questions, answers and explanations. It is a learning exercise, not an official IELTS paper or a recorded Listening test. For a listening rehearsal, ask a partner to read the script once while you look only at the form.
1. Read the instruction. Check the permitted words and numbers for this particular task. Do not assume the previous exercise’s limit applies.
2. Predict the information. Mark whether each blank needs a name, noun, date, time, amount or number. Predict a category, not a guessed answer.
3. Track decisions and corrections. A speaker may mention an unavailable time or correct a detail. Record the agreed information for the field.
4. Check the completed form. Read the answer with the words already printed. Remove duplicated units and check spelling, digits and missing parts.
Complete Questions 1–10 using NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS AND/OR A NUMBER from the script. Cover the script if a partner is reading it to you.

Adviser: Welcome to the community centre. Can I take your surname?
Customer: It’s Mercer, M-E-R-C-E-R.
Adviser: And your address?
Customer: Number 36, Willow Road.
Adviser: Are you booking the cooking workshop?
Customer: No, the pottery workshop. I’ve already taken the cooking course.
Adviser: We run pottery on Friday mornings and Saturday afternoons.
Customer: Saturday is better for us. What time does it start?
Adviser: I was going to say 2, but the new timetable says 2.30.
Customer: Fine. I need four places.
Adviser: Tickets normally cost eighteen pounds each, but this session costs fifteen pounds per person.
Customer: Can I pay the deposit by card?
Adviser: We take cards for the remaining balance, but the deposit must be paid in cash. Please bring an apron. We supply all the clay and tools.
1. Mercer. The surname is spelled; preserve every letter.
2. 36. The form separates the number from the street name.
3. Willow. Road is already printed.
4. pottery. Cooking is a rejected suggestion, not the booking.
5. Saturday. Friday is available, but Saturday is selected.
6. 2.30. The adviser corrects the first time.
7. four / 4. This is the number of places, not the price.
8. fifteen / 15. Use the session’s price per person, not the normal price.
9. cash. Cards are accepted for the balance, but the question asks about the deposit.
10. apron. Clay and tools are supplied; the customer brings an apron.
Do not write Willow Road in Question 3 when Road is already on the form. Do not copy both 2 and 2.30 after a correction. Do not substitute a group total for a per-person price. Do not decide that card is correct merely because cards are accepted for a different payment. These mistakes come from losing the field’s precise purpose.
For each mistake, write the wrong answer, the correct answer and why you chose the distractor. If spelling caused the error, rehearse the spoken letter sequence. If a correction caused it, practise crossing out an earlier suggestion as soon as a speaker replaces it. Then try a different form before repeating this one from memory.
