Balanced Opinion Essay.
General information
o A balanced essay is an essay where you are inclined to one side of the argument but you do not deny the other side, which means you partly agree or partly disagree with the issue given in the topic.
o BUT - Never sit on the fence, even if you accept that there are 2 sides of the argument, you still need to choose which one you would agree more.
o You need to analyse both sides of the issue and state which side you are in favour of at the same time.
o There are 2 places where you need to give you opinion: the intro, and the conclusion.
Let’s see the complete structure of o balanced opinion essay:
introduction:
o Sentence 1: Paraphrase the background information given in the topic.
Sentence 2: State that you partially agree or disagree with the issue. You can also say that you are more inclined on one side.
Body:
First body paragraph:
Sentence 1: The topic sentence (your 1" idea).
Sentence 2-5/6: Give SPECIFIC examples or explanations to support the idea.
Second body paragraph:
. Sentence 1: The topic sentence (your 2nd idea)
. Sentence 2-5/6: Give SPECIFIC examples or explanations to support the idea
Third body paragraph: (Optional)
. Sentence 1: Your idea of the other view. But you can again say that you are more in favour of the first view even if this point also holds some water.
Conclusion
Restate your opinion that although both sides of the issue have solid arguments which you agree upon the arguments of one side are Definitely more powering than the other.
