The community seems to struggle with quasi identical types a lot. People struggle to figure out simple differences between LSIs and SLIs and that piss the shit out of me so this article post will hopefully help some of you and those in need to better point out the contradicting aspects between the types.
To explain the differences I will use LII and ILI as the examples:
We shall begin by going through the 4D functions, the base and the demonstrative.
Remember, the biggest difference in reality between the base function and the demonstrative function is which is being valued by the user/individual. LIIs have Ti base Ni demo while ILIs with vice versa Ni base Ti demo. Both of them have high Ti and Ni BUT one is being valued and the other is not. Both of the types will show that they are more than capable of using the two functions and both of them will appear to have high Ti and Ni, but the key to notice which is being valued or not will need to have close observation of their core values.
LIIs will use their Ni at times to help them create structure, principles, rules, mechanism, laws and system for their Ti to create orderliness for their interactions with the physical world, ultimately to perfect their experience with reality.
ILIs will use their Ti at times to help them gain a better thorough understanding of their insight, imagination, abstraction and hypothesis for their Ni to gain a better understanding of the physical world, ultimately to perfect their experience with reality.
You see, that will really help one see the valued function of another, taking time to decode the mystery through the surface deep into the core takes skills and high understanding of the theory.
Next up we shall use the second method: Which function does the individual struggle with? Basically 1D functions in this case, Polr and suggestive.
Remember, Polr is the function that the user is aware(mental) of but suppressed in terms of usage due to being unvalued, they HATE to use it, theoretically. Meanwhile, suggestive is unaware/unconscious(vital) but is valued and encouraged to use mroe of, they would LIKE to use it more.
LIIs are Fe suggestive, they would love to share laughs and have fun with their friends, family, loved ones and close allies at times. Not only expressing joy, but they do in fact enjoy the sense of emotional harmony that exists at times. Of course, this Fe that they have is not very strong, that is why they require others to create a more open and safe environment for them to express their emotions and feelings at times.
LIIs' Polr Se will be the critical point for them, as they are the type of people that don't want to have a very noticeable identity when with others. They would rather keep themselves quiet and don't mind being ignored by others at times or simply having an "invisible status". They have the tendency to even not mind others not being aware of their presence, as they hate being the center of attention and having a high and energetic presence within a social and physical setting. They would hate to use their Polr Se at times to become forceful and bold in the environment and surrounding that they are in.
ILIs are Se suggestive, they would love to become more noticeable, bold and powerful in front of others in terms of their physical presence. They are not great at using Se though despite wanting to use more of it, so that is why they would have the tendency to stick and hang out with someone that appears to be more willful and determined than them. They would also love to find someone, preferably a loyal partner or a close group of friends that can encourage them to use Se and be more direct at times.
ILIs however have Fe Porlr, making them dislike or even hate the idea of expressing their emotions such as joy or even just having a laugh. When with others, they are serious and on point, disliking the idea of becoming more "emotional" since that will make them feel insecure and weak when perceived by others. Even with people close to them, the furthest they will go would be to only exchange a few jokes or some dead memes as a well to demonstrate their positive relationship, but aside from that they won't like an over emotional atmosphere with too much laughter and joy, don't even get started on negative emotions and sadness.
Generally, both types can appear extremely rational, quiet(even silent), smart, intelligent, scientific, 1000 IQ and so on but when it comes to their 1D functions LIIs are ultimately more fun loving in the background supporting the atmosphere of joy while ILIs are more wanting to become greater in terms of presence within a group while being more serious and business-like.
Noticing the two types' weak point and also which ones they like and dislike will greatly help you determine their types. The major differences between types' structures and functions will ultimately create a bright contrast and that is why they are easy to identify.
Yes, quasi identical types are easy to identify and differentiate, it takes a great understanding of the theory and the delicate analysis of the person with close observation.
I hope this helped, really, it should. I only wrote the LII and ILI examples, but from that it won't be hard to see the differences between the other types too.
