The Market Profiling Application enables users to maintain a live, online, and dynamic interface that can store, analyse, and display a magnitude of different data. The application has been trialled in Vietnam since 2017, with the goal of rapidly increasing country capacity to prevent and control livestock disease outbreaks. The application not only categorises livestock markets based on risk factors such as infrastructure, facilities, slaughter, and other characteristics, but can also map the catchment areas of markets and display market networks of a country, including value-chain movement associated to abattoirs and border points. The MPA allows for the creation of a variety of outputs to visualize data via maps, statistics, or graphs through the use of various ‘plug-in’ applications that can be utilised by veterinary services to plan intervention strategies. Data can and should be continually updated as it changes whenever possible.
