Impovisational dance

The teacher is Mäkinen Mirva

During the first period, I had the opportunity to dig into the world of improvisational dance.

It mainly focused on letting your body free and dance without thinking. This was a completely new experience for me, as I had never done it before. Initially, letting go and immersing myself in improvisation proved to be a challenging task. However, I found comfort in the fact that my schoolmates were nonjudgmental and provided support to any nervousness.

One of my favourite activities was the Dixit card dance. In this task, each group selected a random card and used it as a creative idea or sourse of inspiration to craft a unique choreography. We also had to select an appropriate music to accompany our creation, which we then presented to the group.

Another standout assignment was the Phone Number exercise. In this imaginative task, we had to imagine  ourselves within metaphorical boxes, with numbers around us ( there was a specific place for each number , for example number 0 being above our heads). Our task was to show our own phone numbers through the medium of dance, a task that added a playful creativity to our learning experience.

During this period, we were joined by exchange students from Latvia who came from a professional dance school. Their expertise and skills were inspiring, we liked each others company. Throughout our time together, we engaged in a lot of group work, allowing me to form connections and friendships with them. As a result, many of my friends are those I met in our dance class.
