Project-Based Learning & Service Learning
Hello again! Today I do not bring any new app but I have something even more important, at least for me.
During our last class, Marcos showed us an amazing video made by some students from ESO he used to work with. The video dealt with a hot topic: guns and safety, and, although the content of the video itself and the hardwork it seemed to imply for the students, my fascination was not related to it, but for the idea of the project itself.
Marcos explained us two new methods of teaching, at least they were new for me, they are called Project-Based Learning and Service Learning. They can seem very similar but actually they are not, nonetheless, they both have a common point: to use students’ interests to develop an activity.
On the one hand, Service Learning implies to make an activity which has social repercussions, such as collecting food for people from the neighbourhood who may need it or a campaign to help older people with the shopping. On the other hand, Projec-based Learning can be helpful to keep motivating students working with a topic they are worried about and use that topic to develop different skills they need to acquire. In addition, several teachers from different subjects can cowork to create a big project.
This is all for this week! Now, I need to think about a Project to teach my students, if you have any idea… Share it with me!
