My current understanding of the standard is that it highlights the importance of combining different subjects to make learning more meaningful and useful for students. This way, students can see how different subjects are connected and understand how what they are learning can be used in real-life situations.
In this lesson, I focused on hands-on learning where students explored fractions by cutting fruits into halves and quarters. Although the students didn’t finish worksheets, I took pictures of them working. These pictures show the students actively taking part in the activity, cutting the fruits, and talking about what they were learning with their classmates.
The photos show how I understand the standard by showing how I used practical activities to teach maths concepts. By looking at the pictures, I can see how well the students understood halves and quarters. The photos also show how involved the students were in the learning and give me a record of what they did. This way of teaching connects what students learn in class to real life, which is what the standard aims for.
