My understanding as a student teacher of professional learning is that it’s about always improving my teaching by reflecting on my work, learning new things, and working with others. It’s important to be open to new ideas, take part in learning opportunities, and use feedback to get better as a teacher. This standard also means keeping up with the latest research and best ways of teaching. By taking part in professional learning, I can improve how I teach, support my students better, and make the classroom a better place for learning. It’s about always growing and getting better at teaching.
Planning with My Mentor Teacher and Team
In my planning sessions with my mentor teacher and team, we set clear goals to match the curriculum, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and health/physical education. We talked about useful teaching methods, ways to help students with different needs, and picked resources like visual aids and hands-on materials to keep students interested. We also made sure to include Māori language and values, helping to create a classroom where all cultures are respected. Working together on these plans helped me better understand what I need to teach and how to support all students.
In the two staff meetings I attended, I saw teachers sharing ideas, talking about challenges, and planning school projects together. In one meeting, we discussed behaviour management strategies, which got me thinking about my own approach in class. These meetings showed me the value of teamwork and learning from others. I realised how important it is to work together and reflect to keep improving my teaching.
