Box of Horror is sadly unfinished for now, I will pick it up again once I have a bit more free time.
I made Box of Horror for Experimental Making, the objective was: make something and try something new. At first I wanted to design and make my own torture device, then I realised pain for the sake of pain is boring and I added some depth. The player would lock up their hand and push a lever with their other hand. This would force their locked hand to go forward over all sorts of sharp objects. Ofcourse, touching sharp objects is really only dangerous if you go too fast. So whether this is safe or not is completely up to the player. But all test subjects were very careful. I found it really cool to see that the test players got into a state where they could only focus on what they felt and if they were staying within their own boundaries. This little sense of danger made people connect and respect their bodies.
To make it I forged my own wristcuff and metal lever. I lasercut the box and finally made the painful compartments by making the shape from thinfoil and then layering clay and sharp things on top. As of now 3/5 of the compartments are finished and I still need to attach a piece of cloth over the top, so the player can't see what's going on.
