This is a short game I made for my Endyear assignment. That is basically a test in the first year of HKU to see if you can make a game on your own. It had to be based on what we are most fascinated about. For me that is experiences that are both terrifying and beautiful at the same time.
The name "Turtle Memories" might be a bit weird. Let me take you on a journey. In December of 2023 a group of seaturtles washed up in Zeeland. They were taken to Diergaarde Blijdorp, nursed back to health and released back into a warmer part of the ocean. (News article for further reading) I kept thinking of those turtles, even months later. How terrified must they have been? Washed up where they don't belong only to be picked up by these enormous land predators. They must've feared for their lives, only to instead be nursed back to health. Are they able to make sense of what they experienced? What is human kindness like for an animal that does not understand. Do they still think of the people that helped them, whever they are now?
Turtle Memories is an abstract answer to these questions. Something utterly alien and terrifying, but beautiful. Just as I imagine those turtles felt.
