Animations

Problem:

• How to can we allow users to better understand the GILO app?

Coherently with researching on Google Docs and Google Apps Script, I was tasked to help with creating a few short animations to enable clients better understand the purpose and abilities of the GILO app.

I tackled this issue similarly to the previous one. Doing a literature study on the available software and later on tutorials on using it. After not too long, I came up with Adobe AfterEffects as a valuable tool. I had some experience with it and a lot more with Adobe Premiere, but after further investigation, I found out that Premiere would not allow me to use such specific placement of keyframes on the timeline. So it was again up to a few more tutorials to get accustomed to the interface and tools of AfterEffects, and then I got to work.

The first animation I was asked to do was an animation about a functionality essential to GILO - 'Analytics .'Realizing I would probably have to do more animations in the future and probably someone after me, the first thing I did was establish an animation foundation. This would have allowed me to adjust and render other animations if needed quickly.

Then I followed already created templates in PowerPoint as a guide. On every 2-3 small changes, we discussed whether the animation was as asked to be. Small A/B testing was conducted to verify which iteration was more appealing for the website.

Results:

Creating the animations was a fun and delightful process. I found that about three iterations needed to finish ready-to-use proper animations. After each iteration, I have validated with the task issuer - the CEO Maha. When we agreed I had met the requirements she wanted, the animations were used on the official GILO website to display for future clients. This task has helped me understand why visuals are so crucial to 'hook' clients in a business environment.
