Frontend for add-ins

This portfolio covers the activities that are carried out by Atanas Yonkov, a Fontys ICT & Media student.

My internship was performed at a new and fast-growing start-up called GILO Technologies. My tasks included developing and deploying their Front-end application for online platforms like Google Docs but also for well-established Microsoft Word.

In my 5th semester at Fontys, the aim is to dive a little further into a professional environment by finding an internship at a company. My search brought me to GILO. I was happy stumbling upon this relatively unique opportunity of all vacancies since I am drawn towards languages and feel very comfortable with the subject since a young age. Working at GILO, gave me the opportunity I was seeking to developing language-related software applications. It was a dream come true.

Context

GILO Technologies is developing software that enables users to write better academic-style documents. The software is expected to be an add-on for the following word processors: Google Docs, and Microsoft Word.

Once subscribers install the app on their PCs or tablets, they can access multiple functionalities on the entire toolbar. The research assistant and citation advisor help them gain new insights about their research topics. The grammar checker corrects their syntax and fixes stylistic mistakes along with the misuse of words and phrases. The plagiarism detector determines how much of their text is copied from another source. Therefore, the goal of the GILO app is to enable users to improve their writing style, research skills, and academic proficiency.
