The brochure featured to the left is a tool that was developed with the goal of educating parents and families on digital citizenship and its connection to ethics and law. It's important for stakeholders to have an understanding of what students are being taught and how they can support learners at home. Education on digital citizenship can become more effective when these standards along with reasonings for these teachings are shared with home.
This tool would be great to provide to parents and families as a resource for open houses within a building or to be put on display within a district office.
Creating this tool helped me better understand the law and ethics that need to be considered when teaching students to be role models online. I plan to offer this resource to families when questioning policies related to digital citizenship and to inform families of the standards in which their students will be held to online.
Material to the right is an example of a brochure I developed that briefly overviews the do's and don'ts of being a strong digital citizen.
This piece demonstrates how simple it can be to educate students on how to behave appropriately in the digital world. This tool gets straight to the point and efficiently reminds learners of their expectations online.
This is a tool that can be shared with media specialists or with other educators to share or display for students to access as needed. Creating this tool helped me consider the key ideas learners need to know about digital citizenship and provided opportunity to quickly hook learners to the concept by teaching and referencing tools that are engaging while continuing to teach to this topic.
I intend to use this resource for this exact purpose. This tool would be especially important to share with elementary level students.
