Parallel to the overworld is a dimension is a realm of darkness and chaos known as the Reverse World. In Statera, it is more commonly referred to as the Void. It serves as a filter for the world's life force, taking in dark energy and purifying it before returning the resulting light energy to the overworld. This balance of energy allows the world to endure, even long after the Cataclysm.
However, there are many negative sides to this filter world. The abundance of dark energy makes the world dangerous for overworld beings to traverse. Few can bare to be in the Void for more than a few days without being overwhelmed by dark energy and driven to madness. Monsters called Amalgamations are common in this realm, and sometimes they can escape into the overworld and wreak havoc.
The Reverse World as a whole runs in parallel with the overworld, but is somewhat smaller. It is composed entirely of floating islands levitating over an exposed planetary core. The islands float at different heights ranging from near the molten core to the far reaches of space. Time and space work differently here due to the chaotic nature of everything, unraveling as one moves away from the core. In truth, time and space do not exist in this realm but spontaneously come into being parallel to physical bodies in the overworld. Almost no beings can exist in spaces which lack the timespace fabric within the Void. It is famously believed that a being exists who is exempt from this, a creature native to neither the Reverse World or the Overworld and known only as "The Dark One." (Perhaps a crude name since they are neither dark or light, merely empty.)
The Void is famously empty yet extremely diverse, sporting twisted yet awe-inspiring variations on biomes you would see in the overworld. These range from crystal forests to fields of massive stone spires. The most common sight, however, is barren plains devoid of life. Frequently, one will find Amalgamations aimlessly wandering these empty plains. A common trait of all these regions is Nihilite, a purple crystal that grows everywhere in pockets throughout the Void.
Despite the hostile nature of the Void, there are reasons for overworlders to go there. Because monsters occasionally slip into the overworld, precautions must be taken to combat them. Several metals exist in the void which are counterparts to overworld ores and which can be used to repel monsters from the Void. They are collectively referred to as Voidmetal. The most common of these is Cold Iron, often called Ferrous, the Void counterpart of Iron. It is the most frequently dug up by miners due to its abundance and relative ease of acquisition, but it is not the most ideal metal because it is brittle.
Perhaps more dangerous than the dark energy is the inhabitants of the realm, Amalgamations. These creatures are various clusters of spirits which form around a special crystal outcropping called Nihilite. When a piece of Nihilite is broken free, the spirits are free to roam with a physical body using this Nihilite core to support them. Due to the fact that the spirits are... well, spirits, the bodies of these Amalgamations cannot be damaged.
The aggressive nature of Amalgamations is infamous throughout the world. Born from wrathful spirits forced to sulk in the Void until their dark energy dissipates, these dark spirits eagerly hunt down living overworld beings they detect. In the void, they typically are not a problem. However, it is rarely possible for portals between the overworld and the Void to open for a brief period, allowing one or more Amalgamations to enter the overworld.
The only way to destroy an Amalgamation is to shatter their Nihilite core. Unfortunately, not only are Nihilite crystals very shatter-resistant but the Amalgamations tend to surround the core with their own spirits in order to protect it. Attempting to make physical contact with an Amalgamation is not unlike contact with thick tar, completely nullifying the effects of all but the greatest attacks.
Negative energy is needed to affect them, not simply dark energy. There exists several metals in the Void that can affect them due to their affinity for negative energy. Weapons forged from these ores, colloquially called Voidmetal, can instantly absorb negative energy from dark spirits and nullifying their stopping effect. For its abundance and ease of acquisition, the most frequently used metal is Ironite. These weapons, while useful for combating these monstrosities, are not very durable and consequently are rarely used for things other than fighting Void incursions.
Combat with an Amalgamation works the same as combat with a normal Pokemon, assuming the fighter has Voidmetal with them. Upon striking the first blow with their weapon, they absorb dark energy from the Amalgamation which is distributed through their body. This allows them to use their normal moves until the energy is expended. Dealing enough blows to any part of an Amalgamation's body will usually destabilize it, causing part of it to burst into its component spirits. If one is lucky or through enough, this will expose the core. Spirits will quickly try to reunite with their core so haste is necessary. When a Nihilite core shatters, the spirits are quickly pulled back into the Void.
The shape an Amalgamation takes varies, but they vaguely conform to certain forms based on the circumstances of the Nihilite crystal's formation. There are a few generic Amalgamation forms that result from crystals that form in empty space, but most Amalgamations possess a Pokemon type. All Amalgamations are monotype, and there exists one form for each type. Each one exclusively has moves of their type, except for generic Amalgamations which have no moves at all. Despite having types, Amalgamations are not affected by move typing unless their user has dark energy flowing through them.
