My first goal was to determine effective strategies to provide positive transitions for a grade two student with Autism. Some of the strategies implemented were not always effective. I was hoping to reach this goal by the end of November 2020; however, this did not happen. The barriers which affected this implementation of this goal was the student attended at different program in the mornings once a week, so there was a change to her regular routine. There really was not a great amount of time spent on reaching this goal as I had to take a leave which brought the process to a halt and the classroom was shut down due to COVID exposure. As an EA, using charts provides essential bits of information that may go unnoticed during a busy school day. Charts are a great assessment tool that I will use to help me identify needs and support my students best.
This desk top schedule and a token economies tool that was used daily by the student and highly supported positive ease of transitions.
Also, transitions were always reinforced with verbal praise or praise using the pec system to reinforce positive transition behaviours
