Dan Ross - Artist.
My name is Dan, my art reflects the passions I hold closest to me: history, mystery, horror, literature and creatures big and small.
I express these passions through printmaking, illustration, sculpture and photography.
They are the cornerstones of my creative journey, one that I continue to push myself as far forward as I possibly can.
Art, like much in life, can only be improved by taking herculean risks, regardless of success or failure being the outcome.
Above all, I enjoy the journey.

George the rat. by Dan Ross
One sleepy August morning, I walked outside to water my vegetable garden. To my surprise, there was something lying in the grass near the garden. A dead rat, clearly a wild one. It's distended belly was covered in flies. I have never been the type to pass up such a golden opportunity such as this. So into the sandbox he went (specially designed for such an occasion as this), to let nature do it's merry dance of decomposition. Fast forward 2 months, and like a paleontologist searching for Stegosaurus bones, I dug into my sandbox for a skeleton. After a few weeks of cleaning bones and gluing metal onto the once and future corpse, I had transformed him into a creature worthy of Dr Frankenstein's laboratory. I've been fusing dead animals and metal together for a few years now, and this unique creation of mine, in my opinion, is my masterpiece. Love it? Hate it? I welcome all opinions...
Pigeons in Flight.
Title: "Early Morning" Photograph Dimensions: TBA Price: $100 2018 Notes: Pigeons fascinate me. For those who live in Wellington, they're either treated with disdain or not regarded at all. To most, they are a pest, merely an annoyance to shoo away when you're having your lunch. To me, they are an integral part of life in a city. Who would clean up your trash you leave behind if not for these mostly ignored birds? They're also hilarious if you take 5 minutes out of your day to watch their antics. With my photography, I try to capture both the comedic antics and sporadic poise of Wellington's unloved feathered friends.
Poe. By Dan Ross
Title: "Poe" Medium: Dry point engraving Price: $30 2021 Dan Ross My favourite writer is Edgar Allan Poe, his writing continues to have a huge influence on my art. I've been doing drypoint engraving for 10 years, it's one of my favourite artforms. There are endless possibilities, and the process is both challenging and fun. I love illustrating scenes of gothic horror, especially Poe's gothic tales of suspense and horror.
