Adventures through the laws of Nature

What are the lectures about?

Professional scientists from Uppsala University and Nordita will review what modern science knows about the fundamental aspects of Nature, using a language that everybody can understand.  A cycle of lectures with a different topic each offer you an adventure through all the Nature as we know it: Higgs boson, quarks, nuclei, atoms and molecules, order and chaos, a variety of materials and states of matter, live organisms, light and waves, subluminal travel, gravity, planets, stars, black holes, and evolution of the Universe.

Why?

We want to help the Ukrainian people and the victims of any nationality due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. The registration is nominally free but, as an indirect fee, we ask you to support the cause, in the form and amount that you deem appropriate. Here are some suggestions.

What to expect during each event?

Each event lasts for two hours.

The first part sketches the main scientific model behind the physics in question. During the break you can converse with the lecturer and our team of scientists. The second part connects the model to practical applications: everyday technologies, modern experiments and cool discoveries.

If you feel intimidated, don't you worry! The lectures are written around a very general audience: non-technical as possible while we preserve the original message. We like to recount intuitive examples and trace connections with mathematics, other natural sciences, as well as with music, literature, history and more.

The more you are interested in science, the more you can appreciate it of course. However, regardless of your background, we want to give away messages and ideas that everyone can easily grasp and think about.
