PRAYER FOCUS

OUTREACH PRAYER POINTERS

Dearest friends and co-labourers of God, I greet you in the Name of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Please pray along with me:

O God our Heavenly Father, we thank you for the words you gave to Paul when he wrote in Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” What encouraging words these are, O God, and we treasure them in our hearts.

We thank you that we are your handiwork, your masterpieces, your works of art. Truly, each of us is fearfully and wonderfully made. Help us to remember that you have also created those in our community the very same way that you have created us – as your handiwork, your masterpieces, and your works of art. Help us to see them through your eyes, O God, and behold (as you do) the beauty of your image in them. Help us to love them as preciously as you love them.

We thank you that you have created us for a purpose. You have given us a meaningful existence on earth, and so help us to not just be satisfied with our own personal salvation. Help us to imitate your heart and desire that pre-believers in our community be shown and told about God’s Kingdom so that they, too, can receive it and enter it. We thank you that in Jesus Christ, we have been created to do good works – to bring your love, your joy, your peace – to those in our community. So, Heavenly Father, give us the capacity to bring food to those who are hungry, comfort to those who mourn, friendship to the lonely, and the good news of salvation in Jesus Christ to all. Help us to receive and carry out this purpose you have given to us each time we minister to those at Blk 8 Lor Lew Lian, Blk 223A Serangoon Ave 4, the needy families at Blks 201-210 Serangoon Central, the homeless and rough-sleepers, the elderly in the St Luke’s Eldercare Centres, the children in Hope Student Care Centre, the women and their children in the Anglican Family Centre, and the migrant workers from foreign lands who are sojourning amongst us.

We also thank you, O God, that you have prepared these good works in advance for us to do. It amazes us that despite our idiosyncrasies, you still want us to partner you in the restoration of your image in all people. It has been in your mind all along and you have planned it that we would do the good works that would contribute to the renewed creation (the new heaven and the new earth) and the people who will live therein. We do not take this privilege lightly, Heavenly Father, and we humbly ask that you give us the strength, the courage, the ability, the skills, the talents, and the gifts to do the good works that will ultimately lead people to hear about the salvation brought about by your Son Jesus Christ, to receive him as their Lord and Saviour, and to enter into your Kingdom as your beloved people.

We pray these things in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
