The Guild usually has one or more projects going on over the course of a year. Past examples include a mystery quilt, block of the month, or challenge quilt.
This will be a two-block pattern using three colors with one of them being silver or gray. There will be five to six installments, beginning in March 2023.
A pattern will be provided each month so that at the end of the year you will have either 10 or 20 blocks finished for a quilt top.
Each month, those who want to participate will make one, two, or three 9 1/2” square unfinished blocks. Each block must have white or off white background fabric and you must use navy blue in each block. We would like for you to use a typically dark navy.
From the blocks you make each month, keep one for yourself; bring your extra blocks to the monthly guild meeting. One will go in the charity box, and/or one will go in the block exchange box. You may choose to only put one in the charity box if you don’t want to exchange, or you may choose to only put one in the exchange box.
At the end of the year we will make the charity blocks into quilts for a designated charity i.e. children’s society or nursing home.
July—no block; Quilt show next month :)
Judy Rutledge and Annie Maier have worked up a great project for 2021. Starting in April, you'll receive a 6" block pattern to make. You'll notice that a letter(s) in each block name is underlined. Collect these letters to unscramble the mystery word. Any word, not just a quilt-related term.
Obviously, you can make as many of each block as you you'd like like. Make multiples of one block, or multiples of each block, to make a wallhanging or table topper, or in a quilt top. The possibilities are endless!
Bring in your finished blocks each month to share and pick up the next month's block.

Our current guild charity project is making quilts for the benefit of local not-for-profit organizations. Quilts are made and donated by guild members, with a quilt auction and raffle set up by the organization. All the proceeds go directly to the organization to help fulfill their mission statement.
In recent years, our donated quilts have benefited Project Dog Park, the Galesburg Community Chorus, the Child Advocacy Center, Galesburg Public Library, and the humane society. Applications are solicited in even-numbered years (due at the end of November); the chosen organization does their auction and raffle in odd numbered-years.
If your not-for-profit organization would like to be a beneficiary of quilts for an auction and raffle, please return a completed application form. Applications are due by November 30.
Quilts can be any size, from crib to bed-size. Guild members can participate in any of these ways:
contributing 12-1/2 x 12-1/2" blocks (any pattern, any colors); others will put these together into quilts
making an entire quilt on your own
coming to our charity quilt work days
You can bring blocks or quilts to any guild meeting or to the charity quilt work days.

Construct a 9-patch block using fabrics of your choosing and make the block any size you wish. (I would suggest using at least 4” squares to make your 9-patch.)
Cut the finished block in half vertically and horizontally so that you end up with 4 equal squares.
Cut each of the 4 squares in half vertically and horizontally again so that you now have 16 squares.
Place the squares in a paper bag and shake them up to mix. Reach in the bag, without looking, and pull out 2 squares. Don’t Look! ! ! Put them right sides together and sew. Oh, you can open your eyes while you’re sewing !
Continue until you have made 8 rectangles. Put them in the bag again and sew 2 rectangles together to make a square. You now have 4 squares. Put them in the bag again and sew to make the finished block.
Make one block or make a placemat, wall hanging, lap quilt or whatever your imagination leads you to make. We would like to see your finished block or project during “Show & Tell”.
Any questions . . . just ask!
