What's a Discussion List?
Discussion lists allows you to send a message to all members of the group through just one address. This is an easy way for people with a common interest to share information, ask questions, or set up an activity.
Some examples of things that might go out to a quilting discussion list:
asking a question about a technique you'd like to use
sharing information on a product you've tried and really liked
letting people know of a special sale at a quilt shop in the area
asking if anyone would like to get together for an evening of hand-sewing
whatever else you think guild members might like to know about!
To Send a Message to the Group
Simply address an email to PiecemakersGuild@googlegroups.com, type your message as usual, and send!
To Reply to a Message Sent to the List
If you want everyone to receive your reply, just click Reply; the default setting is for everyone to receive the reply.
If you want to reply only to the individual who sent the message, click "Reply All"–which will bring up the sender's address as well as the group address–then delete the group address, and your reply will go only to the sender.
How to Join
Members are not automatically added to this group. If you would like to opt in to this group, please send your request with your name and preferred email address to Penny Gold, pgold@knox.edu. This email address is where you'll send and receive message to the group. You will get a welcome message when you're added to the system.
Having Trouble?
If you didn't receive your invitation, or you think you're not getting messages sent to the list, the first thing to do is to check your spam and/or junk folders, and then whitelist "googlegroups.com" so there are no further problems. If that doesn't seem to be the problem, contact Penny Gold.
Want to see Past Messages Sent to the List?
Past messages are archived on our Google Groups page, organized by topic of discussion:
Go to www.groups.google.com, login, and you should see My Groups; you should see the Piecemakers group.
If you're already logged in, visit groups.google.com/g/piecemakersguild
In the More menu of google (upper right corner, sort of looks like a 9-patch block ;) open that to access the Groups app (you may have to add or enable it).
However only list members with a gmail account have access to the Google Groups page.
If you do not currently have a gmail account, you can easily sign up for one at google.com; click Sign In (upper right corner) and follow the prompts to create an account. (Note: You can set your gmail preferences so that any messages that arrive there are automatically forwarded to your main account, if you prefer.)
