Our 'singing nuns' singing the PHNA comfort shawl song composed by Sr Linda Hewitt and joined By Sr Ellen and Sr Paula all Sisters of Mercy in Geelong.
PHNA offers complimentary Comfort Shawls to anyone who is suffering grief of any kind, illness, loss, lonliness or struggling in any way.
The beautiful shawls are hand made by volunteers who pray for the unknown, recipient, then that are packaged complete with a Divine mercy medal and blessing prayer and brief history of the shawls.

The newly formed ‘Shawl and Heart Workshop’ was an initiative of Jan Richmond to teach a range of crochet stitches and is held from 10.30am until 1.30pm each 2nd Wednesday of the month, in the St Bernard’s Church foyer. The group has been very successful so far, with an average of between fifteen and twenty attending, receiving information each month through email, Parish Bulletin advertising and word of mouth
Original Comfort Shawl Knitting instructions (can be slightly varied)
Materials: Size 4.00 or 5.00 metric knitting needles 8 Ply or thicker wool or soft acrylic yarn.
Pattern: Cast on 63 stitches. First row - Knit (k) three, Purl (p) three, to the end of the row.
Turn and knit the purl and purl the knit.
You will begin every row with knit.
Use the rest of the yarn for fringe.
Finished size is about 2'x5'. Approx 10 Balls
Prayers: You are invited to weave prayers into the shawl as you knit.
Begin with a prayer of blessing for the shawl.
