Since the first conference on “Philosophy of Science Meets Machine Learning” received considerable interest from graduate students and given that generally, the philosophy of machine learning is a rather young field with many contributions by early-career researchers, we would like to offer a one-day workshop dedicated to this specific audience. The purpose of the graduate student workshop is to give young researchers the chance to present their work in progress and to receive fruitful feedback on it. With this aim, we have designed a format in which every speaker will give a 15 minutes talk followed by a 25 minutes Q&A. Given the particular importance of high-quality feedback for graduate students, we plan to hold the workshop in a pre-read format, i.e., we will invite authors of accepted contributions to submit short papers. The papers will be made available to the participants prior to the workshop, so they get a better chance to think about the ideas presented by the speakers and provide more insightful feedback. We find this a good opportunity for graduate students who aim to review their papers prior to journal submission. Because of this, we encourage papers that are still work in progress. Finally, by holding the workshop, we would like to foster exchange between graduate students in philosophy at the cluster and those working on related topics elsewhere, thereby contributing to the conference series’ general aim to lay the grounds for future collaborations.
