Professional Responsibility
InTASC Standards:
Standard 9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
Standard 10: Leadership and Collaboration
As an educator of young people, I believe that it is my responsibility to give students the best opportunities to learn that they can have. when I reflect on the InTASC broad category of "Professional Responsibility" and what it encompasses, I think about the various ways that I am able to help students develop knowledge and skills in order to provide all learners with engaging curriculum and learning experiences based on local and state standards. To create these situations, I believe that it is very important to create an environment in my classroom that allows for rich learning chances for every student.
Along with creating an environment that allows learning to thrive, I believe it is my responsibility to understand how personal identity, worldview, and prior experience affect perceptions and expectations and recognize how they may bias behaviors and interactions with others. I should know my students not only as students but also as people. These students that I get to teach are still people with real-life problems. So it is up to me to be their teacher when necessary, but also understand that there could be bigger things going on outside of the classroom. Hopefully, through all of these things, we can work together to be the best version of ourselves that we can be.
