Diversity and Technology

In my teaching career, I have been deeply influenced by a diverse range of educators, each leaving a unique impact on my philosophy of education. One pivotal lesson that resonated with me is the idea that "students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care." This principle has guided my commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive classroom environment, where I prioritize the holistic development of high school students. As a mathematics educator, my focus extends beyond enhancing mathematical proficiency to cultivating critical thinking and problem-solving skills. My Multicultural Tools List was completed in Diversity in the Classroom and taught me that there are many different ways to find information about diversity in the classroom. Upon reflection, I realize that I have grown and my learning developed in that my ability to find information and find ways to use that information in my own classroom. In addition, I have learned that this can develop my lesson planning ability because I can implement these resources into my lesson plans. Based on this experience and the personal growth I had seen in myself as an educator, I appreciate the important role this list plays because it allows me to access information about diverse cultures and communities.

It is over Chapter Three of the book Closing the Attitude Gap, which focuses on building relationships with students and why these relationships are so important. I learned how to make these relationships, and I also learned how relationships with students can help them not only develop as learners, but also as people.

Khan Academy Technology Presentation

Here is the link to a presentation about technology that I did for my Education Pedagogy 2 class. The presentation was over the website "Khan Academy." The presentation goes through simple things about Khan Academy like how to make a profile, what subjects are covered, and how is the content taught. A website like this can really help me as a teacher because it a great way to reinforce content to my students. Teacher's need to have multiple layers to their lessons and I feel that Khan Academy is an amazing layer to add to a lesson plan because it allows students to hear the information that you just taught from a new perspective. This can cause lots of students to have "light bulb moments." Any thing we can do that may allow a student to understand information better, we should do. Khan Academy is a great way to get students to this deeper understanding.
